SPRINGFIELD — In response to the Senate’s approval of the Fiscal Year 2026 state budget, State Senator Omar Aquino (D-Chicago) released the following statement:

“As our state undergoes budgetary pressures coming down from the federal level that affect key resources, the FY 26 budget is a fiscally responsible plan that allows Illinois to hold the line on critical services working families depend on.

“Fulfilling our commitment to investing in our children, we are fully funding the K-12 evidence-based funding formula. With the $20 million increase in MAP grant funding, we are ensuring that our young people can confidently pursue higher education.

“When I worked for the Community Care Program, I witnessed firsthand the impact of home care workers on seniors’ ability to live an independent and dignified life. Home care workers provide dignified work – they deserve dignified pay. I am pleased to see this budget include a wage increase for this critical portion of our workforce.

“With the rising cost of living, this legislative session I fought tirelessly to provide economic relief to folks who need it. The FY 26 budget provides $100 million for the Child Tax Credit, keeping money in the pockets of working families.

“With the uncertainties with the federal administration ahead, this budget maintains our responsibility to be fiscally responsible and deliver for the working people of Illinois.”
